1. Browse Peer Supporter Profiles
All Independent Peer Supporters are trained, certified, and eager to help others! Browse their profiles on the Find a Peer Supporter tab or by clicking on the Find a Peer Support tile on the homepage.
On this page, the Peer Supporters who are open for making connections will have an Add button. Peer Supporters you have requested to Add will show as Request Sent. Peer Supporters you have already connected with will show as Connected. Peer Supporters who are not accepting new connections at this time will only show a Profile link. The image below shows an example of each of these.
2. Review Comments and Feedback
Press on the hyperlinked number next to the star rating to review comments and feedback from others to help discover if a Peer Supporter is right for you.
3. Review Specialties and My Services
In addition to reviewing comments and feedback from other members, and reading their profile content which includes their own recovery story and motivation(s) to help, you can review the Specialties on the Peer Supporter profile to see what types of support they can provide. Additionally, some Peer Supporters may have specific meeting types defined in their My Services section.
4. Review Contributions, Upcoming Meetings and Chatroom Options
Contributions
You can see how active a Peer Supporter is within the Community by viewing their My Contributions section, which shows how many 1:1 meetings or group meetings they've led, and if they moderate any chatrooms. You also have direct access on their profile page to Register for one of their upcoming meetings or Join one of the chatrooms they moderate.
Upcoming Meetings
If you find a scheduled meeting that you’d like to attend, press the Register button to be added. If it is a paid meeting, you will be navigated to a checkout screen. Once you are registered, the meeting will be added to your list of Upcoming Meetings in your My Meetings tab. You will also receive notifications to remind you about the meeting as it gets closer.
Note: if you are not receiving notifications by email or text, please check the Notification Center tab in your profile Account - Settings. See this article for additional tips: Updating Email and Text Notifications.
Chatrooms
Many Peer Supporters host Group Chatrooms. Join these chatrooms to communicate with others and be part of many helpful conversations. To see a complete list of ALL chatrooms, navigate to the Chat tab on the top banner.
5. Request to Connect with a Peer Supporter
When you are viewing HeyPeers Peer Supporter profiles you can request to connect with specific Peer Supporters in two ways:
- On the Find a Peer Supporter page, which displays all Peer Supporters, click the ADD button next to the image of the Peer Supporter you want to connect with, or
- After you click the Profile button and you are viewing an individual Peer Supporter’s public profile, click on the CONNECT button under their image.
After clicking Add on the Find a Peer Supporter page, you will see the yellow Add button change to green label that says Request Sent. If you clicked Connect on the Peer Supporter's profile, a pop-up message will appear at the top of the page that says, "Contact request sent" and the Connect button will no longer be there.
Once a Peer Supporter has approved the connection request you are able to start private chats with them, and they are able to create private group chat rooms with you as well.
6. Chat with a Peer Supporter
Once a connection request is approved by the Peer Supporter, you can use Chat directly to ask about upcoming meetings or scheduling a meeting that fits your timetable.
You can begin a chat with a Peer Supporter in two different ways:
- directly in the Chat tab.
- on the Contacts page (located in the Account menu).
Chat tab
On the left side of the Chat page, you can chat directly with any Peer Supporter you have an approved connection with. When you click the Chat button, a list of your connections will appear for you to select whom you want to start a chat with.
On the right side of the page, you will see all of the Group Chatrooms available to join in group chats. Search for topics in the search box to find group chats you may want to join. Click here for more help: HeyPeers Chat Rooms.
Viewing Chat on a mobile device? See Accessing Chat On A Mobile Device for reference on the mobile view of how to access and use Chat on a mobile device.
Contacts page
When you click into your profile Account - you will see an option for Contacts. You can see all active, pending or blocked connections from this page.
On the Active tab, you will see the number of all of your approved connections. You can initiate a chat, or choose to block a Peer Supporter.
If you send a message from the Contacts page, navigate over to the Chat tab to see the full conversations. You will see the conversation in the panel on the left side of the screen.
If you block a Peer Support from the Active tab, they will move over to the Blocked tab.
The last tab shows the requests you have sent to connect with a Peer Supporter.
